Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with remarkable resistance to reducing environments such as hydrogen chloride gas, sulfuric acid, acetic acid and phosphoric acid.Hastelloy B2 is resistant to pure sulfuric acid and some non-oxidizing acids.The alloy shall not be used in oxidizing media or where oxidizing pollutants are present in reducing media.Premature failure of alloy B2 may occur if iron or copper is used in systems containing hydrochloric acid.
Industrial users like its tolerance to various organic acids and its resistance to chloride induced stress corrosion cracking.
Hastelloy B2 resists the formation of grain boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the weld state.Heat affects the precipitation of carbide and other phases in the weld zone to ensure uniform corrosion resistance.Alloy B2 also has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.
