Gr5 is a titanium alloy.
Titanium alloy is titanium based on the addition of other elements of the alloy, titanium has two kinds of homogenous crystal: below 882℃ for the dense hexagonal structure of α titanium, 882℃ above the body center cubic β titanium.
The density of titanium alloy is generally about 4.51g/ cubic centimeter, only 60% of steel, the density of pure titanium is close to the density of ordinary steel, some high strength titanium alloy exceeds the strength of many alloy structural steel.
Titanium has plasticity, the elongation of high purity titanium can reach 50-60%, the reduction of section can reach 70-80%, but the contraction strength is low (that is, the strength generated when the contraction).
The existence of impurities in titanium has a great influence on its mechanical properties, especially the gap impurities (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon) can greatly improve the strength of titanium, significantly reduce its plasticity.The good mechanical properties of titanium as a structural material are achieved by strictly controlling the appropriate impurity content and adding alloying elements.
